CoastKnights brings together people who want to move beyond individual disciplines and contribute when coastal evidence matters most.

Each CoastKnight brings a distinct capability. Together, UCF students, faculty and staff form an interdisciplinary workforce prepared to observe coastal change, advance collaborative research and learn through real-world reconnaissance.

A SELECTIVE STUDENT COHORT

Approximately 20 UCF students will be selected each year through a competitive application process. Selection will reflect applicants’ interests, capabilities, commitment and availability, as well as the evolving needs of the CoastKnights Capability Teams.

Previous reconnaissance experience is valuable, but not required for every role. Curiosity, reliability, teamwork and a willingness to learn are essential.

FIND YOUR ROLE IN THE MISSION

CoastKnights students may contribute to:

• field reconnaissance and rapid-response activities;

• geospatial observation, sensing and surveying;

• real-time monitoring of waves and coastal processes;

• infrastructure and environmental assessment;

• data management, analysis and modelling;

• emergency coordination and field logistics;

• social science and risk communication; or

• education, training and public engagement.

FACULTY AND STAFF

Participation remains open to UCF faculty and staff throughout the year. Colleagues are invited to contribute expertise, support training and field missions, shape collaborative research or serve as a faculty steward for a CoastKnights Capability Team.

Faculty and staff participation is not subject to the student cohort limit.

COLLABORATORS AND SUPPORTERS

Research institutions, agencies, communities and industry partners may contribute through collaborative research, training, technology, data, equipment, field access, sponsorship or in-kind support.

ONE SHARED MISSION

CoastKnights is a voluntary community that connects people across existing programs, departments and research groups. Students remain under the guidance of their regular faculty supervisors, and participation can be shaped around each member’s expertise, interests and availability.
