Through guided participation, CoastKnights students can progress from introductory field experiences to advanced research, technical, coordination, and leadership roles.
They contribute to meaningful scientific observations while developing practical experience in field methods, instrumentation, data management, teamwork, risk communication, and coastal hazard assessment.

Critical information can disappear within hours as water levels recede, landscapes change, infrastructure is cleared, and communities begin to recover.
CoastKnights creates a shared workflow for preparing, coordinating, and conducting interdisciplinary coastal reconnaissance before, during, and after extreme events. Operating within UCF’s Center for Integrated Coastal Research, the initiative connects people, methods, equipment, and perspectives across disciplines.
The resulting observations can provide the foundation for new research, student training, external partnerships, improved models, practical solutions, and collaborative proposals.

Observe Coast provides the shared reconnaissance core: collecting targeted, time-sensitive observations before, during, and after coastal hazards. These observations can then support the Center’s Digital Coast, Ready Coast, and Healthy Coast research themes and activities, helping interdisciplinary teams transform field evidence into new research, improved models, practical solutions, student training, and collaborative proposals.
The focus areas remain connected through shared priorities and continuous feedback. Together, they create a pathway from observing coastal change to understanding its impacts and developing solutions for more resilient coastal communities.
